Welcome 2021

It is a new year and I could not be more excited for a fresh start. I know, I know, we are still in the midst of a pandemic and widespread social and political unrest, and January 1st is an arbitrary date, but it still feels like an opportunity for hope. Any excuse for levity is warranted right now, so let’s welcome 2021!

Do you have any traditions for starting off the new year? For me, the first days of January tend to be focused on reflection and planning. What loose ends from the previous year need to be tied up? What can or should be left behind? What worked well that should be brought forward? What are some new things to try? While I did not make any specific New Year’s resolutions, here are some hopes for everyone reading this.

Well-being
Well-being is an all-encompassing term. It can include physical health, emotional wellness, financial stability, safe and healthy environments, spiritual connection, satisfaction with work, and strong relationships with family and friends. Think about whether all of these aspects are in balance for yourself and members of your community. If there are areas where you need assistance, ask. If there are areas where you are thriving, share with others.

Rest
Sleep well and be well. Sometimes this seems easier said than done. Even when you are awake, plan moments for relaxation and giving yourself a break. If the only way rest will happen is to schedule it, then put it on the calendar like any other appointment. For some additional relaxation tips, follow #1minutereflexology on Instagram. The past few weeks have included short videos of reflexology techniques you can use at home for relaxation and better sleep.

Playfulness
Do not stifle a case of the giggles. Laugh. Be irreverent. Even on the tough days, find a way to have fun. Be kind and compassionate to those around you. Just like with rest, find (or even schedule) the time to play.

I hope if we all focus on bringing well-being, rest, and playfulness into our lives, 2021 will be better for us all.

Happy New Year! Be well on your path.
